Other names: Jiaogulan Vine Orchid, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Five Leaf Gynostemma.
The Gynostemma Herb is a climbing vine that belongs to the cucmber family. It grows in the southern mountains of China and has been used in Chinese medicine for over 1, 000 years. As early as 1252, both medical references, 'Famine Relief Book on Chinese Medicine' and 'Native Chinese Plants' refer to it as the "Miracle Herb".
Unlike many medicinal herbs - this one actually tastes great. Completely unadulterated and steeped in its pure form, the infusion has a smooth, mildly sweet pea flavour with soft, cucumber honeyed notes.
Its fame has spread ; Gynostemma is also called the 'Good News Herb' in Japan, 'Green Gold' in the US and in Singapore and Malaysia, it is referred to as the 'Antidote for a Hundred Illnesses'. Modern medical research is taking it seriously and studying the effects of a herb rich in beneficial minerals and amino acids.
Gynostemma is naturally caffeine free so excellent in the evening and before bed.
