Ding Jingsheng
All the patients suffered from peripheral facial paralysis and were treated by needling the contralateral middle and lower portions of the motor area on the scalp. Several needles were used with 1cm between needles and retained for 3-5 hours. Additionally, 2 needles were inserted into the middle and lower portions of the contralateral sensory area. Body acupuncture was then given at Taiyang (Extra), Zanzhu BL-2, Jingming BL-1, Sibai ST-2, Yingxiang L.I.-20 and Dicang ST-4 through to Jiache ST-6 on the affected side and Hegu L.I.-4 or Shenmen HE-7 on the healthy side with 30 minute retention of needles. Treatment was given every other day, 10 treatments to a course. After 2 courses, 17 cases were considered cured and 7 markedly improved.
