This single-blind randomised controlled trial divided 654 patients with closed fracture of the upper limbs into two groups: a surgical group treated with open reduction and fixation of the fracture, and a TCM group treated with Sidong Wubu. Sidong Wubu treatment involves a combination of physical manipulation, therapeutic exercise and internal and external application of Chinese herbal medicine. The Sidong Wubu group experienced greater improvements than the surgical group, both after six months, and at one-year and five-year follow-up. [09/2013]
