Preparation

Gaiwan / Artisan Press / Yixing Tea Pot

Warm and rinse your vessel and cups with boiled water. Place two teaspoons or 3g of tea into your vessel; a simple rule of thumb is that the leaves should generously cover the bottom. Break off 3-4 small peices of tangerine peel and add to the pot. Add spring or filtered water at 95° or just off the boil. Give the tea a quick rinse. Then infuse for 60 seconds and pour into your cup(s). Remember to re-infuse 8 times, increasing steeping time to taste. Enjoy the evolution of taste as the leaves release their nutrients.

Story

Tangerine filled puerh has an earthy smooth taste with a hint of citrus and uplifting aroma. The process used to make tangerine peel packed pu-erh has remained largely unchanged since early times. The puerh is traditionally processed and then stuffed into freshly hollowed XinHui tangerines, which are from China’s Guangdong Province and are called Chén Pí (aged tangerine peel). The filled oranges are flash dried in the hot sun and then left to rest for at least 6 months.

We only ordered a small amount of Ju Pu Cha as a special Christmas treat this year from our friend Vicky and her family who also supply our 2010 Wild Arbour Shou (baked) Puerh.  Vicky and her family own the HengFungXiang factory and have been working in this southern Yunnan region for over a decade. They help to develop roads, schools, and basic infrastructure to elevate the incredible poverty in these remote regions.
