Electro-acupuncture (EA) at Zusanli ST-36 is associated with an increase in natural-killer (NK) cell percentages in peripheral blood, along with a reduction in tumor size, in patients with cervical cancer, report Indonesian investigators. Fifty-three patients with cervical squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC) who were receiving chemotherapy were divided into a control group and an acupuncture group. The acupuncture group received 2 Hz EA at bilateral Zusanli ST-36 after each of their four chemotherapy cycles. A significant increase in number of NK cells, along with a significant decrease in tumor sizes was seen in the treatment group, compared with the control group. A significant increase in appetite was also observed in the treatment group, compared with baseline.
