Clinical Observations on Treatment of 120 Cases of Coronary Heart Disease with Herba Epimedii

by Li Hengchang et.al.

A study on the effect of Yin Yang Huo (Herba Epimedii) on various symptoms of coronary heart disease including angina pectoris, choking sensation in the chest, palpitations, shortness of breath, ECG findings, hypertension and raised blood lipids. Its principal effect was in the treatment of angina pectoris (total effective rate 85.6%). This herb was selected for the study because of its actions of tonifying Kidney Yang, warming the Yang of the Heart and thorax, activating Heart blood and clearing blood stasis in the heart vessels. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated its ability to markedly dilate the coronary arteries. Routine tests of blood and urine, and liver and kidney function during treatment revealed no side effects.
