Effect of acupuncture combined with blood‑letting by a three‑edged needle on 50 cases of Bell’s palsy at the acute stage

One hundred patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group. Both groups received acupuncture on the side affected by Bell’s palsy at Zanzhu BL‑2, Sizhukong SJ‑23, Yangbai GB‑14, Dicang ST‑4, Jiache ST‑6, Quanliao SI‑18 and Yingxiang L.I.‑20, and bilateral Hegu L.I.‑4. Acupuncture was given every other day for one month. In addition to acupuncture, the treatment group received blood‑letting bilaterally for the first five days at Guanchong SJ‑1 and the ear apex. After one month of treatment, the treatment group experienced significant improvement in signs and symptoms compared to the control group. (06/10)
