Speaker(s): Tony Todd has been practising Acupuncture and moxibustion since 2000 following his graduation from the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM). He also practises Chinese herbal medicine and Shiatsu. Tony joined the Register of Shiatsu Practitioners in 1993 and undertook further studies in Tuina (Chinese massage) and Acupuncture in Shanghai, China during 1993 and 1994. He continues to study with leading teachers in the UK, Europe and Japan. This has included training in Manaka style Acupuncture as well as Japanese meridian therapy and Korean Hand Acupuncture. He is a member of the European Branch of the Toyohari association. In 2005 he trained in Kanpo (Japanese herbalism), followed by further studies in Chinese Herbal medicine, specialising in Shanghan Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue with Arnaud Versluys and the Institute of Classics and East Asian Medicine (ICEAM). In 2013-4 Tony completed studies in Internal and External Acupuncture with Andrew Nugent-Head and the Association of Traditional Studies. In addition to his clinical practice, Tony teaches Acupuncture at ICOM and for the Institute of Classics and East Asian Medicine (ICEAM). Tony was module leader for first year Chinese medicine at ICOM from 2002 to 2016. He is also a clinical superviser at the college and a senior academic advisor, serving on the Academic Advisory Board. At ICEAM he specialises in abdominal patterns for herbal medicine, and in this capacity he has taught internationally in Australia, the USA as well as in Europe.

Moxibustion is a powerful component of the Acupuncturist’s toolbox, used to add heat to certain points on the body, strengthen the blood and stimulate the flow of Qi. This two day workshop has been carefully designed for practicing Acupuncturists to enhance their understanding and broaden their application of moxibustion within clinical practice. The workshop will include both theoretical and practical application, with the aim for each participant to both give and receive a full treatment. Moxibustion appears in the earliest of Chinese medicine texts, even predating acupuncture in any systemized way. There are in fact many different methods in the application of moxibustion ranging from mild to strong, direct and indirect. The course will introduce rice grain method within this context as a versatile technique that can be used to reduce and to treat chronic and blood level problems. Day 1: Mastering the Basics Unlock the ancient wisdom of Moxibustion with our immersive 2-day course, starting with Day 1: Basic Rice Grain Technique: Dive into the foundations of Moxibustion, learning the essential techniques that have been cherished for centuries. Point Locations: Explore the intricate network of acupuncture points, gaining a deep understanding of their significance and how to access them effectively. Sawada Root Treatment Points: We will learn the Sawada root treatment points as the core set of points for treatment of the core deficiencies Core Method for Treating Zang Fu: Completing acupuncture treatment of the channels, we will practice Sawada style moxibustion to treat the vital organs (Zang Fu) enhancing your ability to address various health concerns. Adaptations for Symptoms: Learn how to adapt the basic protocol to address specific symptoms, including muscular and joint patterns, anxiety, and gynaecological issues. Combining Rice Grain with Needling: Explore the powerful synergy of Moxibustion and acupuncture needling, gaining insights into their harmonious integration. Day 2: Advanced Techniques and Personalisation On Day 2, we’ll build upon your knowledge from Day 1 and take your Moxibustion skills to the next level: Review of Basic Methods and Points: Solidify your understanding of the fundamentals, ensuring you’re ready to advance your practice. Adapting Rice Grain for Extra Vessel Points: Explore the versatility of Moxibustion by learning how to apply it to extra vessel points, expanding your treatment options. Selecting Points Based on Symptom Patterns: Develop the expertise to choose the most effective acupuncture points based on specific symptom patterns. Confirmation Through Pulse Diagnosis: Deepen your diagnostic skills by incorporating pulse examination, a valuable tool for this form of treatment but also acupuncture in general. Utilising Polarity Methods: Discover the potential of polarity methods for both testing and refining your Moxibustion treatments.
