100 Cases of Intractable Migraine Treated by Acupuncture and Cupping

Duo Xiuying

This short article describes a technique for treating migraine caused by obstructed flow of clear yang to the head and the flow of turbid yin downwards. This can be caused by invasion of six climatic pathogenic factors, or blockage by phlegm and blood stasis. An unnamed acupuncture point located 4.5 cun lateral to the midline of the spine and parallel to the inferior border of the 3rd thoracic vertebra was needled with strong stimulation. Dark blood was squeezed from the wound, which was cupped for 30 minutes. After 1 - 3 treatments, 57 of the 100 cases were cured, 26 materially improved, 11 improved and for 6 patients treatment was ineffective.
