The Aetiology, Pathology and Treatment of Phlegm
Stagnation of Qi, Blood stasis, Dampness and Phlegm are the four most common pathogenic factors encountered in a Western practice. This online course will focus on the aetiology, diagnosis, patterns and treatment of each of these pathogenic factors with both acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
Phlegm is a very common pathogenic factor in the patients we see. It is a stubborn pathogenic factor that is often difficult to treat. It is involved in many diseases including cancer.
The online course will first discuss the aetiology of Phlegm which is more complex than just a Spleen deficiency. It will then describe the different types of Phlegm each with the treatment with acupuncture and herbs.
Strategies of treatment will be discussed, e.g. should we concentrate on treating the underlying deficiency leading to Phlegm (with tonic herbs) or on eliminating Phlegm (with Phlegm-resolving herbs)?
The contents of the online course are as follows:
- Aetiology of Phlegm
- Pathology of Phlegm
- Patterns of Phlegm
- Diagnosis of Phlegm
- The Triple Burner and the fluids metabolism (treatment of Phlegm with acupuncture)
- Strategies of treatment (treating Ben or Biao)
- Methods of treatment with herbal prescriptions
- Treatment of Phlegm in the context of common diseases
This course consists of a 4 hour lecture with video narration, text, diagrams and photos. The treatment discussed includes herbal medicine and acupuncture.
